Ex Inter Milan Captain To Take On Role In Scouting Future Goalkeepers

Former Nerazzurri captain Samir Handanovic will take on a role scouting goalkeepers for the future at Inter Milan.

This according to today’s print edition of Milan-based newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, via FCInterNews.

Last summer, Handanovic hung up his gloves and retired from playing.

The Slovenian ended a career in Serie A that had lasted for the better part of two decades.

Handanovic had been at Inter for eleven years, the bulk of his playing days.

Therefore, it was only natural that the veteran goalkeeper would forge a strong connection with the Nerazzurri.

During his last few seasons playing at the San Siro, Handanovic had worn the captain’s armband. This was a reflection of his quiet leadership, as well as loyalty to a club he had given many of his best years.

Over the summer it was Lautaro Martinez who inherited the captaincy from Handanovic.

According to the Gazzetta, the role that Handanovic will have at Inter going forward has become more clearly defined.

The 39-year-old had been tipped as a potential future coach for the Nerazzurri’s youth teams.

But according to the Gazzetta, Handanovic will take on scouting duties.

The newspaper anticipate that the Slovenian will have an advisory role in Inter’s search for a new goalkeeper.

At the moment, Yann Sommer holds down that role. But the Swiss is 35 years old, hardly a player for the long-term future.

And it is not clear whether or not Emil Audero will be signed on a permanent basis at the end of the season when his loan deal from Sampdoria expires.

Therefore, Inter will certainly be looking to make at least one or two goalkeeping signings for the future in the coming years.
