Tyson is a huge pickup for UNC!

Belmont transfer Cade Tyson has committed to North Carolina. He has been considered one of the best shooters in the portal since he entered. With the Tar Heels losing Cormac Ryan, they needed a perimeter threat and got a good one in Tyson.

Just What Was Needed

Last season, UNC did not have a true small forward on the roster. They started Ryan, who is 6’5 at the three. Although Harrison Ingram played it sparingly, he was mostly used as a power forward. Now, North Carolina adds 6’7 Tyson, who fits perfectly into this role. This gives the Tar Heels added height that was not available last year. Tyson was being recruited by some of the premier blue-bloods in the sport and took a visit to Tennessee last weekend.

Stats to Know

At Belmont, he has averaged double digits in both seasons. Last year, Tyson had 16 games with 15 or more points. He was a knockdown shooter, hitting threes at an incredible rate.

Freshman Season: 13.6 points, 4.6 rebounds, and 0.9 assists. Shot 49% and 41.7% from three.

Sophomore Season: 16.2 points, 5.9 rebounds, and 1.6 assists. Shot 49.3% and 46.5% from three on 5.5 attempts per game.

That is an elite percentage, especially with that volume. Tyson will have two years of eligibility left.

The Tar Heels now have 11 players on scholarship and need to find a big man in the portal.
