Michigan State football is expected to land one of the top remaining cornerbacks in the transfer portal in Kobee Minor.

Not many head coaches are as hot as Jonathan Smith this spring. Although Michigan State football lost a couple dozen players to the transfer portal, the first-year head coach has found their replacements, and then some.

Smith has been landing a transfer player seemingly every day and that doesn’t look like it’s about to change.

The Spartans had plenty of open roster spots after losing some depth in the portal following spring ball so the 21 players currently committed from the portal shouldn’t be a huge surprise. That number could grow to 22 soon, according to a report from Matt Zenitz.

According to Zenitz, the Spartans are expected to land Indiana cornerback transfer Kobee Minor who was honorable mention All-Big Ten last season with the Hoosiers. He started on that defense and although Indiana didn’t make a bowl, he was one of the bright spots on the team. He finished with 29 total tackles and four pass breakups in his first year with the Hoosiers after transferring in from Texas Tech.

Minor has already faced some of the best offenses in the conference and held his own and that means his transition to Michigan State would be rather seamless. He would be an option to be the Spartans’ CB1 along with Ed Woods and Chance Rucker.

All of these targets in the defensive backfield have been refreshing. Smith knows that the secondary has been the biggest weakness on the team for the past few years and he’s working to change that. Adding Woods, Lejond Cavazos, and now reportedly Minor would immediately upgrade the defensive backfield as Dillon Tatum and Malik Spencer would be the starting safeties.

Plus, the Spartans are hosting LSU cornerback transfer Jeremiah Hughes on Thursday.

Smith and Demetrice Martin are on fire.
