Cody Schrader dishes about ‘getting revenge’ with 300+ total yards vs. Tennessee in 2023
? Kylie Graham-USA TODAY Sports

One of the players at the Senior Bowl who is looking to impress NFL scouts is Missouri running back Cody Schrader.

Schrader is an interesting player, who went from a walk-on to an All-American. Perhaps the game that truly got the country’s attention was against Tennessee in 2023, which Schrader referred to as a revenge game while getting interviewed by NFL Network at the Senior Bowl.

“Not only what I did in that game but our team, what felt great was getting revenge on what we had to go through that previous year,” Cody Schrader said. “For us to go in and stand on business like Coach Drink [Eli Drinkwitz] says and handle Tennessee like we did, it just felt good as a team. We needed that from last year, getting 60 put on top of us. So, just felt good as a team.”

In 2022, Missouri lost 66-24 on the road against Tennessee. Then, in 2023, the Tigers were able to flip the script, winning 36-7. Cody Schrader was a massive part of that win, rushing for 205 yards and a touchdown. He also had 116 yards receiving.

“But when you can get one of those games and it’s one of those games you get once in your career, where it’s one of those flow state type of games where everything is going the right way, but unbelievable team win,” Schrader concluded.

In many ways, the Tennessee game was a symbol of Missouri’s turnaround as a program from one season to the next. After going just 6-7 in 2022, the Tigers went 11-2 and won the Cotton Bowl in 2023. Cody Schrader was a huge part of that turnaround, finishing the season with 1,627 yards rushing and 14 touchdowns on the ground. He also had 191 yards receiving on the season.

Cody Schrader calls Senior Bowl opportunity ‘dream come true’ after whirlwind college career

Now preparing for the next level, Cody Schrader shared that he feels playing at the Senior Bowl is a dream come true.

“It’s a dream come true for me to be here,” Schrader said. “Just kind of getting back, starting to play football again, being around some of the best players in the country. This is kind of what you ask for. This is our dream to go play in the NFL. Play at the next level. Be around the best and learn from the best. It’s just been really fun so far.”
